100 Years of Circus Knie

Every child in Switzerland is familiar with the Circus Knie, which has now been touring the country for 100 years. In 2019, this milestone anniversary will be celebrated in a fitting manner.

In 2019, circus fans of all ages can look forward to the jubilee tour of the Swiss national circus, Knie: on its many stops throughout Switzerland, the circus directors from the world-famous Knie dynasty will embellish their shows with additional events outside the circus tent, as well as with a colorful supporting program. In Zurich, the popular circus will stay for a whole month in the very heart of the city – on Sechseläutenplatz in front of the Opera House.

First of all, a spectacular tightrope dance act promises to cause a sensation before the start of the tour. On 16 March, artists will perform just as they did 100 years ago on a public square, rather than in a marquee as is customary today.

The tour begins on 21 March in Rapperswil, where the circus is domiciled. Both the winter quarters and the popular Knie’s Children's Zoo are located here. In German-speaking Switzerland, presenters Viktor Giacobbo and Mike Müller will accompany the evening performances, while in French-speaking Switzerland Vincent Kucholl and Vincent Veillon guide the guests through the evening. In the afternoons, circus clowns will present the show.
